How much do influencers make? Income streams and key factors
There is no reliable one-size-fits-all number: what an influencer or UGC creator makes depends on format, effort, usage rights, niche and demand. If you know your income streams and calculate your prices properly, your earnings become more predictable.
Why there is no fixed number
Search for “how much do influencers make” and you will find lots of numbers that contradict each other. That is because creators work in very different ways. Some live off collaborations, others off their own products, still others earn a little on the side. On top of that come differences by platform, country, language and niche. An average number therefore says little about your own case. A more helpful question is which income streams are an option for you and what you can realistically charge for a single job without going below your effort.
Income streams for creators at a glance
The best-known source is brand deals: a brand pays you for a post on your channel. With UGC, you produce content that the brand runs itself. With affiliate links, you earn a share of sales made through your link. Your own products, digital offers or merch bring in income without a client. Some platforms also pay out to creators. And last but not least, services are in demand, such as photo shoots, consulting or on-site appearances. Most creators combine several of these sources so their income does not depend on a single one.
What determines your earnings per job
Reach is only one factor. Format and effort are at least as important — a repost is something different from an elaborately produced video with a script and several locations. The engagement rate shows how attentive your audience is. A niche in demand with an audience that has buying power often allows higher prices. Usage rights play a big role: if the brand may use your content for ads, advertise through your account or use it everywhere, that is worth more than a simple post. Category exclusivity that locks you out of working with competitors also belongs in the price.
How much do UGC creators make?
With UGC, reach drops out as a pricing factor; production and rights count all the more instead. How much you make depends on how much work goes into a video, how many variations or edits the brand needs and how it wants to use the material. Content for paid ads is usually worth more than material that is only shared on the brand’s channels. Experienced UGC creators therefore bundle their work into packages and charge usage rights as a separate surcharge. That keeps the base price comparable, and the brand sees what the additional use costs.
What is left of your price on creatordeal
On creatordeal you set your prices yourself. The price on your package is the net amount for your work. When a booking goes through, creatordeal keeps a commission from it; when you submit a quote, you see right away what is left for you. The service fee that the brand pays on top does not reduce your pay. You set surcharges for usage rights in your usage rights price list. With every payout you get a credit note showing the net amount, commission and payout amount. The current rates are on the pricing page.
Revenue is not yet earnings
What a brand pays is not what you are left with in the end. Expenses come off that, for example for equipment, software, props or travel. You pay tax on your income yourself, and depending on the country and your situation, social security contributions come on top. creatordeal does not pay any taxes or contributions on your behalf, but as a platform it is legally required (DAC7) to report your income to the tax office; for that, we need your date of birth, tax number and country before the first payout. So from the start, set aside part of every payment for these costs and keep track of income and expenses. Which obligations apply to you is something to clarify with the tax office or your tax advisor, ideally before the first larger amounts come in.
